Junior Tennis Clinic and Match Play

Coaches Mike & Andrew Cianos host junior tennis players for clinics and match play.

Sundays, April thru September in 8-week sessions (see focus below) 10 AM - 12 PM Roland Park Country School. 5204 Roland Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21210

$70 per session

Week 1: Introduction to Match Play and Basics

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and dynamic stretches

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Tennis fundamentals review (serving, groundstrokes, footwork)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 AM: 2v2 match play with coaching tips and feedback

  • NO CLINIC APRIL 12

Week 2: Serving and Return of Serve

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and serving technique

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Serve practice and drills (placement, power, and spin)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 PM: Controlled match play focusing on serving and returning serves

Week 3: Net Play and Volleys

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and agility drills

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Volleys and net positioning drills (forehand, backhand)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 PM: Doubles match play focusing on net play

Week 4: Footwork and Court Coverage

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and footwork drills (side-to-side, split steps)

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Court coverage practice (moving to the ball, recovery steps)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 PM: Point play focusing on footwork and positioning

Week 5: Match Strategy and Tactics

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and reviewing basic match strategies

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Shot selection and when to be aggressive or defensive

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 PM: Match play with coaching feedback on strategy

Week 6: Mental Toughness and Focus

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up with mental visualization exercises

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Mental toughness drills (staying focused during points) and handling pressure situations (tie-breakers, break points)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Match play with emphasis on maintaining focus and calm under pressure

Week 7: Doubles Play and Communication

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and basic doubles positioning

  • 10:30 - 11:00 AM: Doubles drills (teamwork, covering the court, communication)

  • 11:00 - 11:15 - BREAK

  • 11:15 - 12:00 PM: Doubles match play with team strategies

Week 8: Mini-Tournament and Review

  • 10:00 - 10:30 AM: Warm-up and review of key skills from past weeks

  • 10:30 - 11:30 AM: Mini-tournament (singles or doubles matches)

  • 11:30 - 11:45 - BREAK

  • 11:45 AM - 12:00 PM: Final debrief and feedback on each player’s improvement

General Notes:

  • Each session will begin with a dynamic warm-up (stretching, light jogging, and movement drills).

  • Drills will be designed to focus on individual skills while also incorporating game-like situations.

  • Match play will be balanced with coaching feedback, helping players analyze their strengths and areas to improve during EACH ession.

  • Players are encouraged to bring their own rackets and wear appropriate tennis gear (comfortable athletic wear and tennis shoes)

  • Snacks, sunscreen and water provided
